Ringtail Cafe and Swamp Fox Media

This week, I’d like to talk to you about someone else’s work other than my own.  These two entities are also part of the independent comics scene.  I’m talking about Ringtail Cafe and Swamp Fox Media.

Ringtail Cafe is a small company based out of Kentucky.  I had the honor of meeting them while attending Anthrocon 2011 (see my post on that event for more info).  They make a number of small press titles, their flagship title being (surprise!) Ringtail Cafe.

The work itself is an action piece about a secret organization…that operates out of a coffee shop.

Yes, you did read that last part right.  Our heroes operate out of a coffee shop.

There’s five issues of the series at present, plus a trade paperback containing these five stories.  At the time of this writing, a sixth issue is in development.  Check out the comics’ own entry for more details, preview images, and where to buy it.  Another series under development is one I found out about while at Anthrocon.  It’s called the Confectionaries.  An original graphic novel is under development, but you can purchase two comics of the series at present – a holiday special and an issue numbered “0”.

The entry on the above link briefly describes the series’ concept but I found out more interesting things about it while at Anthrocon.  It revolves around characters made of sweets like cookies, candy, and ice cream.  In fact, one of the comics has on its cover an ice cream zombie!

These guys look promising so check out their site and comics.  Tell them that Max West sent you.  For those of you who use social media (and who doesn’t?), Ringtail Cafe has a presence both on Twitter and on Facebook.  Be sure to take a look at that too.

Swamp Fox Media is another rising entity on the independent comics scene.  Based over in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, I first became aware of them on Twitter.

They are still a fledgling company and their titles won’t debut until this October.  They have more information on their planned titles over on their Facebook page.

The title Herald and Heretics looks like a promising entry in the world of small press comics.  I’d like to check that one out.

That’s all for this week.  I hope you readers aren’t disappointed that I didn’t talk about my own work or post up my own stuff.  But I like to give a boost to other small press comics out there.  We do have to band together to stand up to the giants known as DC and Marvel.

Subscribe to my RSS feed or via email if you haven’t already.  And be sure to check out the above small press comics companies listed above.

Tell them Max West sent you…well, what are you waiting for?  An invitation?  Go check out Ringtail Cafe and Swamp Fox Media.
