Sunnyville New York Tour 2015 Day 1

I made it to New York City safe and sound, my former home and where the early episodes of Sunnyville were produced.  And so, for the first day of the tour, I headed into Manhattan.

Strand Books exterior

Strand Books is a prestigious independent bookstore that is known for having 5 miles worth of books!!

When I was living in New York, I made many trips here.  I not only bought great books but also would search here for inspiration.

Forbidden Planet NYC

This is Forbidden Planet.  As some of you know, I have a campaign to get this store to carry Sunnyville Stories.  I went inside but did not solicit them openly.  I honestly wanted to get a look at what was being sold.  I did see a number of independent comics on the shelves like Cerebus the Aardvark, Bone, and even Jason Brubaker’s reMIND.  If they carry these quality titles, why not Sunnyville?  I’ll bring this up in my next sales letter.

I did break for lunch at a great place known as A Salt & Battery.

A Salt & Battery

Located on 112 Greenwich Avenue, this hole-in-the-wall place serves British style fish & chips (French fries to us Americans).  Seldom will you find a better piece of fried fish.

Fried cod and potatoes

My next stop was none other than Carmine Street Comics, on 34 Carmine Street in the West Village of Manhattan.  I spent some time chatting with Jon Gorga about his store as well as Sunnyville, my immediate plans and possible ideas.  Jon has suggested that individual episodes of Sunnyville Stories be posted up rather than get published in pamphlet format.  Why?  This would give my work greater exposure and also let me build up a fanbase from which to sell books to.  That is an idea I am thinking of trying out for Sunnyville #13 and #14.  But I will talk more about that later.

The tour continues tomorrow.  That’s all for today.  Sunnyville Stories Vol. 1 (ISBN 9780615653921) is still for sale on Amazon. Copies of Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 and Von Herling, Vampire Hunter are for sale right now at Great Stories. Check out Direct Textbook too for more details on my books!  And if you have an Amazon Kindle, get Sunnyville Stories Volume 1, Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 and Von Herling, Vampire Hunter for it today!
