Announcements for July 9, 2016

We have quite a few things to cover today.  First, I’m continuing to familiarize myself with Kickstarter – there’ll be a formal announcement about my second Sunnyville Storis Kickstarter made on Saturday, August 6.  Speaking of Kickstarter, I want to call your attention to a pair of comics projects on there.

The first is Home #3 by Black Magic Wolf Productions.  They are very close to their goal and have about two weeks left to go to reach their US$2,500 goal.  So please give what you can today and make sure you spread the word!

Another project on Kickstarter that I’ve backed is Regret #1.  This project has met its goal and in quite a short time no less.  However, they now have some stretch goals so please spread the word about their efforts today!

Moving onto myself and my comics, I’m still burned out from my ordeal of completing four projects at once and dealing with CoreCon.  For the time being, I’m just relaxing and working on something other than Sunnyville.  However, I assure you that there will be goodies on Sunnyville coming up.  I’ll be talking soon about Sunnyville Stories #15 and, in the coming months, will have scripts and concept art to share.  Right now, I’m practicing my basic drawing skills.  Besides joining up with some drawing instruction forums and doing life drawing sessions at the museum, I’ve practicing both lines and control with the pen.

Ink pen practice

Those lines and exercises are from Drawing in Pen & Ink by Claudia Nice.  There’ll be a review of that book up here on the blog soon as well as yet another title in the Guerrilla Marketing series (one that I’ve been reading over and over again).  Another item I’m working on are some art samples.

Sunnyville art samples get painted

That’s some artwork of the Sunnyville characters being rendered on 4×6 inch watercolor paper.  I was taught that it’s important to have multiple streams of income; one idea I’ve been planning for awhile now is to license the Sunnyville characters out to art licensing firms.  I’d love to see Rusty, Sam, Margaret, Jason, Ragnar, Olaf, etc. on posters, bedsheets, coasters, coffee mugs and so on.  I did get a hot tip recently on a firm that would be open to the Sunnyville characters.  They’ll be contacted with these samples once I get them finished.  Stay tuned to the blog for more news on that.

Remember that the blog’s sixth anniversary will be on August 1 so I’ll have a special post up on that day!

Be sure to swing over to DriveThru Comics for digital copies of Sunnyville Stories.  Copies of Sunnyville Stories Volume 1 are still for sale on Amazon, both in print and Kindle formats!  While you’re there, be sure to pick up Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 and (if you love Gothic horror) Von Herling, Vampire Hunter!  And now available is the latest installment of the saga, Sunnyville Stories Volume 3.  Get them today!

Copies of all the above titles are available to the library trade via Brodart Company and to retailers from Ingram and Baker & Taylor (via BCH Distribution).  Copies are also available direct from the publisher.  For ordering information, contact maxwestart(at)gmail(dot)com or write to:
