Work is continuing on the pencils for Sunnyville Stories #12. I need to make up for lost time. Progress has been made and the pencils for the comic should be done this weekend.
My visit to New York took away from my working time and there’s also the work on Sunnyville Stories Volume 3, still on schedule for its January 15, 2016 release date. On top of that, I still need to work on promoting and marketing the series. Anyway, the story runs for 33 pages and I’m up to page 20 at the time of this writing on the pencils.
Here is my drawing table with various tools on there. I’ve got pencils, pens, ink, straightedges, notes and thumbnails. There’s also a figurine of Grumpy Bear (my favorite Care Bear) and a statue of Peter Cushing as Van Helsing from the 1958 film “Horror of Dracula” that I keep for inspiration. It helps to have cans of Mountain Dew Kickstart around to help fuel my creativity.
My Ames lettering guide has been giving me trouble lately so I may have to throw it out. Some people keep faulting me for using old-fashioned tools and have told me to “get with the times” by lettering on the computer. I do use my computer hardware and software for doing typesetting for my books and comics.
I just prefer using pencil and pen to draw my comics. The feel of the pen tip or the pencil lead gliding across the bristol paper is nothing like a tablet stylus drawing onto a computer screen.
Moving on, I’ve been busy not only doing the pencils, but filling in the letters after having draw in the guidelines with my Ames lettering guide. The page that you see in this photo and the one above it? Rusty is questioning Lars and Helga Eftirmatur about whether they actually saw their daughter wreck their cake.
The plan is to wrap the pencils up tomorrow and have the completed comic finished in May. Once that happens, I can get to work on putting the third volume to bed.
That’s it for today. Sunnyville Stories Vol. 1 (ISBN 9780615653921) is still for sale on Amazon.
