In this post, I have some announcements to make. I contacted Dave Sim recently about how I had fallen behind on Sunnyville Stories episode 10 (more on that in a bit). As you may recall, Cerebus the Aardvark will be making a cameo appearance here with Sim’s permission. I contacted him via mail and soon got an answer back in my mailbox.
Postcards are a handy tool; I use them myself.
It’s great to get correspondence from such a living legend like Sim. In fact, I’m considering asking him if he’s willing to write a foreword for Sunnyville Stories Volume 3!
Speaking of Sunnyville #10, it is my aim to finish it this weekend. I’ve been lagging way too long on its progress and it needs to be wrapped up.
Now that those are out of the way, I have some good news and bad news. First, you’ll get the bad news. Remember the Ignatz Awards? They’re industry awards for small press comics that are organized by the Small Press Expo. The nominees have been announced…and once more, both of my works did NOT make the nominations. Neither Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 nor Von Herling, Vampire Hunter made the list.
To be honest, this doesn’t surprise me. Hundreds, if not thousands, of titles are reviewed for nomination for the Ignatz Awards. Even being nominated, let alone winning, is a challenge. As usual, there is nothing I can do but keep going.
Now here’s the good news. I’ve mentioned before that the Siouxland Library of Sioux Falls, South Dakota was the very first library to every carry the first volume of Sunnyville Stories. The city itself is now just three and a half hours away from me! I’ve contacted them and explained now that my base of operations is in Fargo, North Dakota. We plan to arrange for me to go down there sometime in September to host a panel and discussion on my work and on comics in general.
I’ll keep you posted on further developments as they happen.
That’s all for now. Sunnyville Stories Vol. 1 (ISBN 9780615653921) is still for sale on Amazon. Copies of Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 and Von Herling, Vampire Hunter are for sale right now at Great Stories. Check out Direct Textbook too for more details on my books!
