I have a special blog post to share tonight. Once Sunnyville Stories #17 and its Kickstarter, I plan to pursue an idea I’ve been meaning to work on for quite some time.
Sometime last year, I conceived a cousin for Rusty. The concept is that he’s seven years old, his name is Dominic and, like Rusty, he’s a wise guy.
Dominic lives in the mountain town of New Gestad with his little sister Lori, his father Harald (Rusty’s uncle and the younger brother of Rusty’s father) and his mother Abigail.
His neighbors include the teenage daughter, aged 14, of the town mechanic; her name is Claire.
The concept I have is basically a gag series focusing pretty much on humor. Dominic would be the wise guy and Claire would be the straight man, setting up Dominic to say something funny and providing reactions to Dominic’s jokes.
Rather than commit to a full series (which would be quite short), I’m going to do a story of about 20 pages with Rusty, Dominic and Claire all together. I plan to post it up online, probably here and on my DeviantArt. This story along with a bit of extra material will be collected into the Sunnyville Stories Super Special #2. Like I did with the first super special, I will organize a Kickstarter to fund a small print run. Once I work out the details, I’ll make an announcement.
In the meantime, I plan to produce in the coming months some short 1-2 page comics with Dominic and Claire sharing a joke with the readers. These will be dubbed “short takes”. That term came from the cable television channel HBO; in the 1980s (I was lucky to have HBO back then), they would run as filler in between programming something called short takes – usually a short live-action or animated film anywhere from 2-10 minutes long. These Dominic & Claire short takes will be shared here on the blog as well as on DeviantArt. Stay tuned for more news on that too.
That’s it for now. I’ll have more news as it develops!
