Sunnyville Stories

This is the first of two blog posts planned today.

As many of you have noticed, there haven’t been many posts on this blog lately. This is owing to the fact that Sunnyville Stories and its spin-off, Dominic & Claire, are currently on hiatus. My main priority at this time are my webcomic Poison Ivy Gulch and my planned picture book Hilda & Richie.

I need to further clarify that Sunnyville is on HIATUS – it has NOT been cancelled. As some of you know, I am planning to do reprints of the Sunnyville books in the future. To do that however, I need to succeed with a planned Kickstarter to fund that picture book I mentioned. (I will be discussing that later today.)

Since the tenth anniversary of this blog is coming soon, I hope to do something for that.

Anyway, stay tuned – later today, I will be talking about a big Kickstarter planned for my picture book, Hilda & Richie!

It has been over a month since I last updated. I finally finished sending out the rewards for my last Kickstarter, Dominic & Claire Circus.

At the time of this writing, Sunnyville Stories remains on hiatus; given the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic, I’m not sure how well my plans will pan out to liquidate the remaining stock of Sunnyville books. It still remains my goal for 2021 to crowdfund both my planned picture book and new version of the Sunnyville trade paperbacks. I proved earlier this year that I can raise thousands of dollars through crowdfunding.

I am also unsure about Dominic & Claire. I have more fun planned with them but like with Sunnyville, that might have to wait. Now that my Kickstarter is out of the way, I need to think ahead to two major projects.

I am planning to launch a webcomic in June. I’ll have updates on that later. In addition to that, I have been long neglecting my planned picture book of Hilda & Richie. That ties into my master plan that was previously discussed. I have been neglecting that for too long – if this book is to be a reality and to be crowdfunded in January 2021, then it is imperative to get started on it.

As you know, Hilda & Richie do exist in the Sunnyville universe so I want to do a crossover to help promote that to all of you readers out there. I’ll have some periodic updates about their book but most updates will be over on their own blog.

Updates will be more sporadic on this blog for the immediate future but stay tuned as I will share more news about Sunnyville and my other comics works.

My Kickstarter has finished and that Sunnyville spin-off comic, Dominic & Claire Circus, is nearly done. If all goes well, it should be finished by tomorrow night. Check out the latest Kickstarter update on that.

After that, my next order of business is a planned comic book/webcomic I’ve been planning for a long time. It’s a Western called Poison Ivy Gulch. There are some similarities to Sunnyville, in spite of its human cast. It deals with a remote, isolated town with its populace full of eccentric characters. But that is a whole other story.

I also plan to continue work on my picture book, Hilda & Richie, which is also part of the Sunnyville universe.

As for Sunnyville Stories itself? I’m still on the fence about what to do. I will have been working on this saga for ten years now. I don’t know if it should continue as I want to move on. On the other hand, I can’t just abandon Rusty and friends. Even now with crowdfunding more comics a suitable option for me, I just don’t know what to do.

Sunnyville will remain on hiatus for the foreseeable future while I think things over.

Late last night, the Kickstarter for the Sunnyville Stories spin-off, Dominic & Claire Circus, ended.

The final funding amount is $1,030, about 103% of our goal.

This was one of the most difficult battles I ever fought. In spite of fighting hard, promoting aggressively and the amount of people helping, this went down to the wire.

This was not unlike my other Kickstarters where I funded with a few days to spare.

This shows that I am capable of raising funds in the thousands. That means that my picture book and new, more compact books collecting Sunnyville comics are now possible!

Those however are for another idea. I must finish my current comics and plan my next move.

Today is the last day of the Sunnyville Stories spin-off Kickstarter, Dominic & Claire Circus!

At the time of this writing, we are 88% funded and just $118 from the goal! We are doing well and the numbers are on my side. But in spite of that, it is IMPORTANT to hit 100%!

The clock is ticking down and just earlier today, we hit 70% funding!

It is also mentioned in the most recent update but I will repeat it here. Some higher tier rewards are available; anyone taking even one of those will get us very close to our $1,000 goal.

For a pledge of $129, you get Dominic & Claire Circus as well as a print and two extra comics. But there is something even bigger that you can get.

You will also get all three volumes of Sunnyville Stories, featuring Dominic’s cousin Rusty! These books have 11 whole stories between them, plus extra features!

Remember that time is running out – this Kickstarter ends late Friday night on February 28, less than 3 days from now.

We still hold at 68% funding. With the last days of the campaign coming up, I hope to see more pledges come in. It is not unusual for pledges to come in during the final hours of the campaign.

From here on, I aim to continue beating the drum about the Kickstarter as I always have.

No matter what happens, for better for for worse, I am in this Kickstarter until the very end.

There are plenty of rewards left such as my comics and an exclusive color art commission available for a pledge of $299!

Back Dominic & Claire Circus on Kickstarter now!

As I continue to sell my comics at FM Comicon 2020 (I’ll have more on that later), I also have been pitching the Kickstarter to convention attendees.

It is going well as at the time of this writing, we are now 67% funded and sitting only $75 away from being 75% funded!

That is so amazing and the chances of Dominic & Claire Circus getting funded is very high.

However, I do not intend to sit around and wait. At today’s convention, I will continue to stump for the Kickstarter as I did yesterday.

During the event, I was handing these out. These slips of paper were printed up at a copy shop across the street from the convention hotel and bear both the URL plus a QR code.

Remember that 5 days remain for us to hit the goal.
