Ladies and gentlemen, I have a big announcement to make. I am planning to do not one but two Kickstarters in the coming months.
The first Kickstarter is a small-scale one in that it will be meant to raise funds in the hundreds. It will be a Kickstarter for Von Herling, Vampire Hunter.
Now planned for sometime in spring or summer of 2018, this Kickstarter aims to raise about US$600 to fund a micro-run reprint of my graphic novel. This reprint will be about 50 hard copies which will run about $283 with an estimated shipping to me of about $80. Mailing supplies and mailing fees (one of the rewards WILL be hard copies of this micro-run reprint) are estimated to be at about $133.64. All additional funds are meant to deal with any unforeseen costs as well as the processing fees charged by Kickstarter and their cut of said funds. Stretch goals are planned too. I will have further updates on rewards later. Any information above is subject to change between now and the launch.
And now…we come to my bigger planned Kickstarter. In January 2018, I will launch a bigger one to fund a micro-run printing of Sunnyville Stories Volume 4!
The goal of this second Kickstarter will be to fund about 200 copies of Sunnyville Stories Volume 4. As a reminder, Sunnyville Stories will contain Sunnyville #12-16 as well as the Sunnyville 2016 Annual and the Super Special #1 (which was my successful Kickstarter from earlier this year).
The target for this Kickstarter is a bigger one. It will be US$2,500. The estimated printing & shipping costs for the books will be $1,590. Mailing supplies and mailing fees (again, hard copies will be sent out as rewards) should run around $423.40. Additional costs, both to cover any contingencies as well as Kickstarter’s fees & take, will bring the final total goal to the above figure of $2,500.
This is indeed an ambitious goal. Raising a few hundred dollars is one thing, but raising a bigger sum in the thousands will be a challenge. It is one however I am confident of doing. For the past few months, I’ve been taking part in seminars on Kickstarter as well as taking down more notes and listening to crowdfunding podcasts – namely Comix Launch. It will NOT be easy and I know there are no guarantees of succeeding. But I prefer to take the risk.
