Welcome back, friends, to the official Sunnyville Stories blog. I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season. Oh, it’s not too late to go buy a copy of Sunnyville Stories #2 from Indy Planet – it makes for a great stocking stuffer. And now onto this week’s comic pages. When we last left Rusty Duncan, he was exploring the woods surrounding his new home…and had an unexpected encounter.
The normally cool and collected Rusty is not at ease here – he was clearly scared before. But now one has to wonder why he’s still jittery. Maybe it’s because he’s staring right at a very pretty girl?
So Rusty Duncan and Sam Macgregor finally meet in person. Sam has lived in Sunnyville all her life. She’s quick to realize that Rusty is definitely not from around here.
Rusty and Sam formally introduce themselves to each other. Oh yes, we learn that Rusty’s real name is Robert. How did he get his nickname? Well, that’s another story for another day…and one I haven’t thought up yet.
I definitely had fun with the inking in this panel. The lines on that tree in the middle panel really make it looks like it’s made from actual wood. Those scribbles I put as the thick, hewn grass blades at the bottom also really work well. To be honest, inking is my favorite part of making comics. It’s at that stage that everything starts to come to life.
That joke Rusty is making BTW in the last panel is a set-up…but alas, you’ll have to wait until after Christmas to see the punchline. Merry Christmas to all!
