Work on Sunnyville Stories episode 8 “Make the Grade” is proceeding full steam.
At the same time, I’m also working on my graphic novel Von Herling, Vampire Hunter as well as the content for Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 and a possible third book for next year. But I’m getting ahead of myself here.
Here are some of the very crude thumbnails I’ve developed for Sunnyville Stories episode 8. As I explained before, thumbnails are meant to work out the lay of each panel, positioning of the characters, the angles and views, and other such storytelling mechanics.
In contrast to the last story I did, this episode is meant to be dramatic. I had to make sure that there was enough tension conveyed in both the dialogue and in the crude beginnings of the comics pages you see here. It did work. The conflict between Rusty and his mom is so powerful, I could feel it practically jumping off the page!
We’re also going to be seeing the personalities of Rusty’s parents in this story. I had to make sure of a clear divide between the two in their parenting styles. That will be reflected in the story.
