Movie Options and Mouse Guard

Some of you familiar with small press comics may be familiar with Mouse Guard.  This series, created by the spectacular David Petersen, is a fantastic comics read and also the winner of two Eisner Awards!  Seriously, if you have not read Mouse Guard: Fall 1152 or Mouse Guard: Winter 1152, you need to pick up both of these titles!  I own them and they are amazing!

Anyway, there was recent news that Twentieth Century Fox has optioned Mouse Guard to be made into a feature film!   Continue reading →

The Challenge of Nancy Duncan

One of the challenges of writing Sunnyville Stories lies in one of the characters and that is Nancy Duncan, Rusty’s mother.  I have talked about her before but there’s more to Nancy.

Nancy seems to have a love-or-hate reaction with readers.  I’ve had a few people tell me they like Nancy and at least one reader claimed to have the hots for her!  Others though don’t like her because of her bad temper and how she bullies her son.

Nancy is a challenge for me when writing the script.  It’s not unlike one of my influences Charles Schulz when writing for Lucy Van Pelt of Peanuts – he openly admitted he enjoyed writing the character but grew to hate her.

Sunnyville Volume 1 Hits Number 1 On Kindle!

Ladies and gentlemen, I have late breaking news that I just learned of today!

I went to check on copies of Sunnyville Stories over on Amazon where it is sold in both paperback and Amazon Kindle format.

Sunnyville Stories Volume 1 is presently ranked #1 in Kindle graphic novels in the “everyday life” category!!

Sunnyville Stories Volume 1, Kindle edition, #1 ranking on 7/22/2016

This alternative comics title and its loyal cast of Rusty Duncan, Samantha Macgregor, etc. is actually beating out all other titles in that category, including manga and foreign titles.

Amazon rankings are always changing and this probably will eventually be altered in the near future.  But the fact that Sunnyville Stories Volume 1 for Kindle actually reached a number 1 ranking is nothing to sneeze at.  This is what the TV Tropes would call “a crowning moment of awesome”.

Why My Kickstarter Failed

After watching videos on Kickstarter, reading articles on crowdfunding and signing on with crowdfunding discussion forums, I started writing notes in a notebook to learn everything I could.

However, this was not enough.  I needed to take a look at the first Kickstarter than I ran two years ago, review it and understand why I failed based on everything I’ve learned.  It is my aim to learn from these mistakes and also share with everyone out there what I learn.  Nobody else should make these same mistakes.
