News for May 22, 2016

I have some announcements today.  I’m very busy working on FOUR entire projects to finish up by June 11.  First and foremost, I’m working on Sunnyville Stories #14 and wrapping that up (more on that in a moment).

Work on Ingmar the Wanderer #1 is close to finished and that will be put out on time.  As for the Sunnyville Stories 2016 annual, I’ve had a setback with that.  Besides one more 5-page story to complete and a handful of other items, my guest cover artist had to cancel due to other commitments.  So I have to work up a cover for that myself.  Lucky for me, I do have an idea I want to use for that.

At this time, I’m working up the variant cover for the Von Herling re-issue on DriveThru Comics.  Besides that, I have to “retrofit” the pages to make sure the file isn’t too large for uploading and rework the editorial pages but that’s not a problem.  Here’s a sneak preview of the color cover.

That cover is nearly done as this post goes live.

Anyway, onto Sunnyville #14 – I have new pages up on DeviantArt.  I’ve been working on the dream sequence where Rusty meets Little Nemo and Cerebus the Aardvark.  These aren’t easy as they are demanding every ounce of technical skill I have.

Sunnyville Stories #14 Page 25

This page was not an easy one to do.  In addition to setting up one-point perspective on the top two panels (I usually use flattened, orthographic perspective), it took clever use of a Speedball C4 nib to do that water splashing Rusty, Cerebus and Nemo overboard.

I have to use more Western perspective on this page too and it isn’t easy.  I’ll have more to share next time.

That’s all for now.  Be sure to swing over to DriveThru Comics for digital copies of Sunnyville Stories.  Copies of Sunnyville Stories Volume 1 are still for sale on Amazon, both in print and Kindle formats!  While you’re there, be sure to pick up Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 and (if you love Gothic horror) Von Herling, Vampire Hunter!  And now available is the latest installment of the saga, Sunnyville Stories Volume 3.  Get them today!

Copies of all the above titles are available to the library trade via Brodart Company and to retailers from Ingram and Baker & Taylor (via BCH Distribution).  Copies are also available direct from the publisher.  For ordering information, contact maxwestart(at)gmail(dot)com or write to:
