At the time of this writing, the scripts for Sunnyville Stories #12 and #13 are in production.  I thought I’d share with you some of the script I’ve been doing for the thirteenth story.

Sam’s Talents and Rusty’s Career Choice

This will be the last of the pages I share of Sunnyville Stories #11 today.  These are photos of the pages in progress.  The lines have been inked but I have yet to erase the pencil lines and start spotting blacks.  Anyway, here’s the scene.  Rusty has learned that Sam is actually good at drawing and plans to go to the same art school that her cousin Rachel attends.

Rachel and Samantha Macgregor's talents

Sam did reveal in Sunnyville #5 that she is a trained belly dancer and Rusty felt very awkward there too.  So now we learn that Rachel taught Sam how to belly dance and Rusty tries to handle the thought of Rachel belly dancing too.  His reaction is priceless as is how Sam and Margaret react.   Continue reading

Rusty Meets Eddie and Rachel

I have some other pages to share today.  Let’s jump ahead in Sunnyville Stories #11.  Rusty is going to meet Sam’s cousins right now.

Eddie Macgregor enters

Eddie Macgregor is the bookish type, as if you couldn’t tell by his glasses.   Continue reading

Work progresses on Sunnyville Stories #11 and it’s now in the inking stages.  Anyway, I thought I’d share another page today.  It’s one that is pretty much one of my favorite running gags in Sunnyville.

To give Sunnyville more of a feeling to the reader that it’s an actual place, I used an aspect-to-aspect transition here to show shots of the town and its inhabitants.   Continue reading

Work is progressing on both Sunnyville #11 and Sunnyville volume 3, still on schedule for its release in January 2016.  As for the eleventh story “the Artful Dodger”, it’s going to be 33 pages in length.  I thought I’d show you some of the rough pencils I’m doing right now.   Continue reading

The Pictorial Vocabulary of Sunnyville

In my plans to keep improving upon Sunnyville, I had to go back to the drawing board to take another look at what I created and even to look at what’s behind it.  To do this, I had to take another look at all my books and refresh my memory about what I had learned.

One of the texts I own is Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud.  This is a book that really needs to be read by anyone in this field.  It takes a serious look at the medium.

The second chapter of the book “The Vocabulary of Comics” takes a look at icons, representation and the concepts of what icons mean in comics.   Continue reading

Getting Into the Library Market

It’s been awhile since I’ve done an updated map here regarding areas that have Sunnyville Stories (and Von Herling) in their libraries.

sunnyvillemap10282014

I had to change this map a bit since the District of Columbia is too small to show and the country of Australia is NOT a US state.  Anyway, these areas all have libraries that presently have copies of Sunnyville Stories Volume 1 (ISBN 9780615653921), Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 (ISBN 9780989069601) and Von Herling, Vampire Hunter (ISBN 9780989069618).    Continue reading

Concept art for Sunnyville 11

At the time this post goes live, I have a lot of things I’m doing.  Among them (and my top priority) is Sunnyville Stories #11.  As one of the goals is to make the series mature and really show off what I can do, I’ve been aiming to open up the world some more.

To that extent, I’ve been developing some concept artwork.   Continue reading
