THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE SUNNYVILLE SAGA!

Publisher Readies Second Volume of Acclaimed Comics Series

Different Mousetrap Press LLC has announced that the top-rated comics anthology Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 is scheduled for a general release in March 2014.

Sunnyville Stories is a creator-owned comics series in the vanguard of alternative comics. It tells the saga of a charming village called Sunnyville, inhabited by anthropomorphic animals dressed in old-fashioned clothing. The series itself revolves around two energetic teenage cats, Rusty Duncan and Samantha “Sam” Macgregor, who have all sorts of adventures.

In this stunning 200-page trade paperback, the famous creator Max West continues to unveil his stunningly complex universe of Sunnyville to loyal readers everywhere. Picking up from where the first beguiling volume left off, Rusty and Sam have even more imaginative adventures where they resolve a family dispute, meet three newly arrived brothers, attend a community dance, and put on a play for the entire town.

The first volume of Sunnyville, already available, has met with excited reviews from the press and the publishing industry. The Midwest Book Review says Sunnyville Stories is “destined to become a mainstream hit” and even compared Mr. West’s work to the renowned Walt Kelly, creator of newspaper comic strip Pogo. The Library Journal praised Mr. West’s work even more, citing Sunnyville as having “clean artwork and an idyllic story line.”

Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 will retail for US$19.99 and will be available for sale through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and other booksellers. The book will also be available wholesale through Ingram and Baker & Taylor as well as to the library trade via Brodart Company and Alibris.

Scared to Death, But Saddling Up

I’m very busy putting together the two books that will be due by October 31 – Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 and Von Herling, Vampire Hunter.

This last week and a half has been rough on me because I’ve had a number of failures. I haven’t gotten any new reviews on my work, either in the press or on Goodreads. I’ve also been receiving some hate mail lately; just as I was at Anthrocon, I’ve been accused of forging my good reviews. Yes, the reviews that said Sunnyville Stories is actually good quality – I’ve been told that I somehow hacked those websites and posted my “phony” reviews on there or I bribed somebody to put those up. Continue reading

Episode 9, Page 2 Bottom Panels

Picking up from where we left off, I thought I’d display the bottom panels of page 2 to Sunnyville Stories episode 9.  As you remember, it’s part of the cold opening where Rusty is spying on his neighbor, Mrs. Hauptmann.   Continue reading

Episode 9 Page 2, Top Panels

I did the inked lines for the second page of Sunnyville Stories episode 9.  As you remember from last time, Rusty was up in his room and had binoculars.  What was he doing?  See for yourself.   Continue reading

Episode 9 Page 1 Revisited

Following up after the last post I did, I finally managed to get some scans of the pages after inking them in.

As you recall before, pencils usually don’t reproduce well and in spite of my best efforts, I could NOT reproduce on the pencils on a photocopier or  a scanner.   Continue reading

Sunnyville Stories Episode 9, Page 1

I owe all of you readers an apology for not updating the blog on time yesterday, like I usually do.  Besides being busy, I had some problems trying to scan the pencilled pages.  I tried doing it on my office scanner as well as the copiers at my neighborhood FedEx Office.  I don’t know what was wrong.  Maybe the pencil lines were too light or perhaps I just had bad luck.

In order to give you a preview of the pencils, I had to photograph them with my digital camera.  It took many tries as I wanted something that could actually be viewed.   Continue reading

Sunnyville Episode 9 Thumbnails

I fell a little bit behind after the news from yesterday that my company has been accepted for distribution by BCH Fulfillment & Distribution.  I had paperwork to fill out and mail as well as some research to do.  But I’ve gotten most of the thumbnails for Sunnyville Stories episode 9 done.  I’m trying to make sure the story doesn’t run too long.  It was unavoidable with Sunnyville Stories episode 6; I need to make sure the story doesn’t drag on.

As it’s shaping up, the story may run around 38 to 40 pages.  I’ll keep you posted on what the final page count will be once the thumbnails are finished and I review them.   Continue reading

Working on Sunnyville Stories Volume 2

With Anthrocon nearly here and my original graphic novel to finish inking, I’ve decided to go ahead and prepare my second book Sunnyville Stories Volume 2 for printing.

Just as a reminder, this book will contain episodes 4, 5, 6, and 7 plus the Sunnyville Sketchbook and an additional two short vignettes.  On top of all that, this book will be longer than the first volume.  The first book was 128 pages while this one will be 200 pages!   Continue reading

Finding Inspiration From Charlie Brown’s Super Books

As some of you may know, I keep various art books around for inspiration and reference.  Just recently, I acquired some old books that may be of use.  They happen to the Charlie Brown’s Super Book series, based on the Peanuts comic strip by Charles Schulz.

Charlie Brown's Super Book series

The Charlie Brown’s Super Book series was a collection of five volumes from Random House Publishing that compiled the earlier Charlie Brown ‘Cyclopedia series from Funk & Wagnalls.  They featured photographs, illustrations, and the Peanuts gang in drawings & comic strips covering all kinds of topics like animals, plants, the human body, transportation, outer space, weather, holidays, clothing, machinery, and so on.   Continue reading
